Knights of the Old Republic MMO??…

October 23, 2007

Awhile back, I posted a rumor stating that there will be a release of a Knights of the Old Republic like MMO (Massively multiplayer online role-playing game). Well according to IGN.com, it’s looking like something like this is about to be developed and is planned on being released sometime in 2009!

“Citing a source “close to BioWare,” the gaming web site Primotech is reporting that the Mass Effect developer’s Austin, Tex.-based studio is working on a massively-multiplayer online roleplaying game based in the same universe as the company’s beloved Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

BioWare has made it clear that its Austin studio has been working on an MMO since 2005, but the company has been tight-lipped about the game’s details. In an email to IGN today, a BioWare spokesman said the developer has no further info on the game or the KOTOR rumor swirling around it.

“We haven’t made any announcement regarding the content of our MMO and what you’re seeing on the net is purely that, rumor and speculation,” said BioWare spokesman Matt Atwood.

According to the Primotech piece, the game will be released in 2009.

Despite the success of KOTOR in 2003, BioWare passed on the opportunity to develop the sequel in favor of working on original IPs like Jade Empire. Instead, Obsidian Entertainment developed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Both games were published by LucasArts.

Publishing giant Electronic Arts announced earlier this month that it is buying BioWare and Pandemic Studios for more than $800 million in cash, equity and loans.

BioWare cals the KOTOR MMO tidbit rumor and speculation, and they’re apparently not the only ones. In one of three editor’s notes at the bottom of the story, Primotech defends its info as accurate news and digs in its heels against sceptics:

“We’ve gotten several emails asking about the validity of this news,” the note reads. “The only rumors we post here at Primotech will explicitly be stated as such.”

George Lucas plans ‘Star Wars’ TV series…

October 18, 2007

This is interesting. At first I thought it was talking about the new Clone Wars animated series, but then I realized it’s not. So it looks like we’ll be getting another series besides the Clone Wars. Although there’s not a whole lot of information released on this yet, I am excited that there will be a live action Star Wars series!

“The Force may soon be coming to a television near you. George Lucas is planning a live-action television series spinoff of the “Star Wars” film franchise. Lucas told The Los Angeles Times he has “just begun work” on the series, which will not include the films’ major characters Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader.

“The Skywalkers aren’t in it, and it’s about minor characters,” Lucas told the Times on Tuesday.

Lucas wouldn’t reveal details, but joked that the series would be about “the life of robots.”

Lucas, 63, already has another television series in the works. Lucasfilm Animation has been working for months on the computer-animated “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed PSP details revealed…

October 16, 2007

We have some new details pertaining to the release of The Force Unleashed for the PSP. According to PocketGamer.co.uk:

“People have seen Star Wars before,” the game’s producer, Dan Wasson, comments in the trailer, “but they’ve never seen Star Wars like this – this is in your face.” From the in-game footage shown, it certainly looks that way, with opponents being tossed about the screen, lightsabers slicing up droids, and crazy force powers.

As a user of the dark side of the force, you’ll have a number of unique abilities at your disposal – it’s only natural that these play an integral role in the game given its name. Standard powers like force push and grip will make an appearance but expect new additions such as maelstrom, which generates a field of kinetic energy that hurls enemies away from you.

The PSP iteration of The Force Unleashed follows the same storyline and gameplay as its console counterparts, but developer Krome Studios is adding a load of exclusive content. Three areas are mentioned by project lead, Haden Blackman, in the trailer: a secret place in Cloud City, access to the Jedi Temple for training, and a bar on polluted metropolitan moon, Nar Shaddaa.

The exclusive content doesn’t stop there. “The Force Unleashed on PSP is designed to be pick-up-and-play,” says Blackman, speaking of the game’s quick play modes. Rule the Galaxy, Force Assassins, and Order 66 round the list mentioned. While we’re not certain what the first two modes entail, we do know that Order 66 pits you in a survival game against waves of enemies.

Along with single-player quick play options, you also have the ability to link up in ad-hoc mode with up to three other buddies. No mention of infrastructure support, though.

Another feature hinted in the video are historic missions, which depict classic moments in the series, such as the climatic battle between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. We’re pretty eager to see how that one plays out – word has it there’s a family secret waiting to be aired.”

Darth Vader Samurai Armor…

October 14, 2007

This would make one badass halloween costume.. of course if you bought this you probably wouldn’t be wearing it to often. This suit alone would run you roughly a cool 5200$… looks like I won’t be getting one anytime soon. haha.

“Earlier this year the Yoshitoku Company transformed the iconic villain back into the design that inspired his well-known image in the first place. Yoshitoku’s “Samurai Vader” is a ¼ scale costume that even features a traditional bow and Samurai sword! The suit was created for a Japanese festival back in May called Tango no Sekku, which means “Boy’s Day”.

While some parts of the armor required cutting-edge sculpting technology, a lot of it is hand crafted with traditional materials. Even more interesting is the fact that most of the artists who worked on this are over 70 years old. They’ve obviously put their years to good use by producing such a masterpiece.”
