The Force Unleashed: Some Game Fixes + XBOX 360 & Playstation 3 Comparison…

Well so far, there have been many problems with The Force Unleashed. This seem ecpecially often with the XBOX360 for some reason. Anyway, LucasArts has released some fixes or an attempt at fixes and some general questions & answers, they are as follows:

How do I keep my Xbox 360 saves from becoming corrupted?

Save games that are corrupted cannot be repaired. Please try loading a different save game from an earlier point to see if this resolves the issue. Try the steps below to prevent the problem from happening again.

1. We generally suggest making fairly frequent saves and alternate save game slots. This way, if one save game file goes bad, you can use one of your other recently saved games. If you have used any cheats then it may affect your save game.

2. We also suggest copying any save games to a memory card each day to keep a backup in case your Xbox 360 hard drive fails.

3. Try clearing your cache of the game. Most games use the Xbox 360 hard drive extensively to cache (copy and reuse) game data. This is done to optimize all loading the game does. It has been found in rare cases on some Xbox 360s that the cached data can get overly fragmented. This exhibits itself by the game taking a long time to load anything from menus, dialogue, sounds, objects, levels, and more.

To solve this problem, reset your Xbox, and hold down the A button as the game is booting up. If any button is held while the game is loading, it will clear its hard drive cache, and create a new one. Once you see the game logo video, the game is already loaded, and the cache should have been cleared. Note, this does not affect your game in any way other than loading. You will not lose any saved data.

4. Delete any save files or games you no longer use from your Xbox hard drive.

Using these steps can help to prevent problems with saved games.

I accidentally deleted / overwrote my saved game. Is there anyway to get it back?

Once a saved game has been overwritten or deleted it is gone. The best way to avoid this problem is to have multiple saved games. Many players have different saved games for different purposes such as before and after a tough battle.

The main screen not coming up and its getting stuck on xbox logo screen or black screen. It doesnt do anything when I hold down a to clear cache.

To resolve this issue, please do the following:

Make sure you don’t have the game disk in the console and you do everything in the right order.

1. First, go to the Dashboard and access the “system” blade and select memory.
2. Next, go to the hard drive tab and open it.
If you have downloaded a copy of the TFU Demo delete it.
Then, delete any previous saves from TFU
3. Restart the Xbox.
4. Go back to the system tab and select memory again, but do not ‘open’ the hard drive.
5. Hit “Y”, it should open another options window for the HD.
6. On the controller hit X X LB RB X X and select ok.
7. You should get a message about maintenance to the 360.
8. Restart the console again and insert the disk and enjoy.

I will be keeping tabs on any fixes I find and I will post them here.

In another news, GameTrailers has posted a neat video, that compares the XBOX 360 gameplay with the Playstation gameplay. Check out the video below to check out the differences.

how about the fact that the save game feature on the 360 is useless since it does not actually save it or let you save it in any slot.

I found these same suggestions on LA’s support site, but they seem to be pretty generic. First of all, regarding point 1) Frequent saves are useless, at least on the 360 version, since it only goes back to the last indexed save. Furthermore, there doesn’t even appear to be a method to save to an alternate slot without completely starting over. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

I haven’t had any issues with saving on the 360 yet. *Knock on wood*

But the game has no replay value to speak of.

    its not useless
if u buy combos and want to turn it off

U can save it and ur newly bought skills will stya next time
without the need to get to next checkpoint

Pfft. Never got an option to choose a different save slot (360)… besides, there was no actual point in saving… if I killed everything, saved and then ran around the level looking for stuff and feel off or got stuck or something equally stupid and annoying… when it reloaded it just went to the last autosave. Tried loading the save from the main menu, same thing – last autosave checkpoint.

The game was fun… but the amount of bugs and glitches in a big release like this is a pathetic effort on behalf of lucasarts.

Great, so this isn’t a glitch, we really do have to start from the stupid autosaves, cmon Lucasarts, that’s not difficulty, that’s just gay. I have said this before, Halo is the only game I’ve seen that can actually pull off a checkpoint save system, and even then it took 2 games to get it right.

I’m having the same problem. It always returns to the checkpoint. That is SO annoying!

Has anybody else had a problem with the game not giving you credit for finding holochrons and force points. Because after I got to a certain level the game just stoped showing that I had collected any holochrons or gotten any force pushed. I still got the benifits from both, I just can’t finish all of the bonus objectives.

  14. sam on September 28th, 2008 2:41 pm

    OK i’ve got a problem.
In the middle of a cutscene my xbox failed and said the disc was damaged etc.
took it out and nope, discs fine.
put it back went to the main menu and loaded up my game.
then i tried to move my character and when i did the game froze, and now it does this every time =[
do you think my save is corrupted (a lost cause)?

When you have to bring down the destroyer i get about a third through and then get thrown to the back of the screen where the fence is. Then i cant get out. Just stuck jumping like a loony with the eventuality of falling to my demise. Then i have to do it all over again. :-(

    Bugs (360 version):
After about 3 levels, the game stopped recording your force point total, how many holocrons you had picked up, and how far along any level specific objective you are (instead, this is replace with ‘Default Text *’ on the objectives list).
This is very poor, and needs to be patched ASAP.

I have also had a serious issue with the game stuttering and skipping through the cut scenes, making them unwatchable.
I initially thought this was my Xbox, aside fromt he fact it’s only 10 months old and doesn’t do it on any other games, but now I’ve read a lot about the poor performance of this game, the unreadable disc errors etc, I’m now not so sure.

  17. Paul on September 30th, 2008 10:56 am

    360 version

The final 2 levels the game stops recording force points, number of holocrons you collect and game progress and replaces with with Default Text, i thought maybe its just a text error, but its still recording it.

So i carried on and completed it, and collected all holocrons on the final 2 levels, but the achivment wont unlock, cos the game isnt working correctly, and now I don’t know what to do, and am somewhat displeased at this fact, even tho the game happliy will let me keep all the holocron bonuses, i actually wanted the achivement, i hope this is patched in the future please!

This game blows I’m at the part where you have to bring down the ship and no matter how many times I try, I can’t get it down. I can deal with the oncoming tie fighters but everytime I try it doesn’t give enough time, to get to actually pull it down before the next onslaught. Either that or I’m not doing the control thing right, either way it shouldn’t be so hard. I’m at the point where I’ve probably fought off 12 waves of fighters and I can’t make any progress. Why make something that should be easy so friggin hard? It’s not like you’re actually fighting a main character in the story. Anyways I’m going to try a couple of more times and if I don’t get it I could really care less if I play this game again.

I am getting that disk error when the game freezes at 360 logo or black screen. AFter following steps 1-5, i am now supposed to hit X X LB LB X X. It doesnt do anything for me. What I dont know what kind of message is supposed to pop up at this point, but it doesnt happen…

I keep getting a bug that noone else seems to get. In one section of the rescue admiral Kota mission, the video cuts out, but the game keeps on going. I can still hear the audio, and if I go to the save or player menus, the picture returns. Then, when I go back to the game, after a moment or two it disappears again, and then after awhile it is just a black screen. Anyone else experience this?

  22. Bryan on October 19th, 2008 9:27 pm

Well i wanted to buy a home game sysytem what is the concensus on which platform is better?Xbox360 or PS3.

  23. Brett on November 26th, 2008 11:04 am

I have PS3 and the auto-save has an error and prompts me to retry. however, sometimes it works and sometimes you have to save manually. any which way, we have had data corrupt on the saves 3 times in two days. cannot progress so i couldn’t even tell you how good/bad the game if we turn it off we start over as vader.
    :(
